Toni Nadal: "Coaching Federer would be a dream come true"

Toni Nadal has returned to training and now returns to Roland Garros, where he lived so many successes with Rafa Nadal, along with his new pupil, Canadian Félix Auger Aliassime. In an interview with SRF he spoke about this fact and about the possibility of training Roger Federer in the future, if he asked. Toni said with a laugh that the Swiss “would never come to me”, although if he did “it would be a dream come true.” “He would never come to me. It’s so good that you don’t need help. But one thing is clear: it would be a dream come true for all coaches to train Roger Federer one day. He is one of the best tennis players in history, if not the best. But I’m sure he doesn’t need my help, “he laughed after being asked how he would react if Federer went to his Academy to ask him to be his coach. Regarding the fact of arriving in Paris with a player other than Nadal, he explained that «I never thought of coaching another player. The situation with Rafa was special. I’ve been training him since he was 3 or 4 years old. He was always my nephew in the first place. That also had its advantages: I knew him and knew what is good for him and how much I can expect him to do. It is not so natural with another player, but I am lucky to work with an athlete like Felix. He has great potential. “Toni Nádal also spoke about the duel between Nadal, Djokovic and Federer:” I think there are two main reasons why they are still so good. On the one hand, they all want to end their career with the Grand Slam record. Plus, they can still win just about any tournament. If that wasn’t the case, they wouldn’t play anymore. I can’t imagine Roger Federer continuing if he can no longer compete for the big titles. Finally he spoke about the record held by his nephew, Rafa Nadal, with the 13 Roland Garros. “It is increasingly difficult for Rafael to win the tournament every year. But recently he played three really good games in Rome, that will give him a lot of confidence. For me it has the best possibilities, we have it in our own hands. No, excuse me, it’s in your own hands, “he commented with a smile.
