Toy gun triggers large-scale operation at school

Suspicious people are handling an object on a sports field at a school. A firearm? The police arrive with around 100 emergency services.

Obrigheim – A toy gun triggered a large-scale police operation in Obrigheim (Baden-Württemberg), including the evacuation of a school.

Around 100 emergency services assumed there was a threat to the community school in the Neckar-Odenwald district on Thursday after suspicious people were reported there on an adjacent sports field, the police said in the evening.

They are said to have handled an object that turned out to be a toy weapon. A cartridge was also found on the school grounds, it said.

The school building was evacuated in the afternoon. A total of around 380 students and teachers were affected. A care point was set up where the children and young people were picked up by their parents and relatives.

Investigators determined that the suspects were four children and adolescents between the ages of 12 and 14. They were reportedly taken into custody. Further backgrounds were not initially known. dpa
