Scientists have known for decades that trees help remove some of the pollution from the atmosphere . Now, a team of researchers from the US Forest Service has calculated that in their country alone this capacity helps prevent the death of 850 people a year and prevent 670,000 cases of acute respiratory problems.
In fact, these experts, who have worked in collaboration with technicians from the Davey Institute, point out in a study published in the journal Environmental Pollution that the beneficial effects on human health caused by this phenomenon can be valued at just over 5,000 million dollars annually .
They indicate that trees carry out this exchange more adequately in rural areas than in cities; However, it is in the latter, and in particular in the more populated and more forested areas, such as New Hampshire, where forests cover more than 80% of the state's surface, where the results are best.
