According to consistent US media reports on Friday, a small plane with the 49-year-old businessman on board crashed in New Jersey. The exact cause of the alleged accident on Thursday was initially unclear.
De Vries flew into space alongside Star Trek icon William Shatner in a space capsule by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos in mid-October. He had made a ten-minute excursion into space aboard the "New Shepard" missile system from Bezos' space company Blue Origin and had climbed to an altitude of about 107 kilometers. dpa
