Winter is coming back with full force: The German Weather Service (DWD) warns of various dangers for all of Bavaria.
Update from January 21, 3:23 p.m .: The fact that winter has returned to Bavaria has been clearly noticed in the last 24 hours. It snowed heavily in many places. Sometimes it was very slippery on the streets. Numerous accidents were the result. But the big end is still ahead of us. The German weather service warns on its weather map in deep red of heavy snowfall around the Berchtesgaden Alps. From Saturday morning to Sunday, 6 a.m., around 40 centimeters – in traffic jams even up to 60 centimeters – of fresh snow can accumulate here.
And south of Munich on the edge of the Alps, the German Weather Service warns of snow amounts of up to 40 centimeters. In addition, it stormed until Saturday noon with wind speeds in excess of 75 km/h. However, this only affects the very high areas above 1500 meters. However, be careful on the roads throughout Bavaria. The snowfall, which can last until Sunday, will make it slippery.
Update from January 21, 8:21 a.m .: Winter has arrived in Munich. A light blanket of snow has settled over the state capital, the fresh snow from yesterday, Thursday, has settled particularly on roofs and green spaces. The temperatures should be below zero all day long, as the weather portal wetteronline.de predicts.
Weather in Bavaria: Entire Free State in the warning area – DWD with an urgent message
The German Weather Service (DWD) has marked the entire Free State in the warning color “yellow”. Widespread ice and frost must be expected. Car and truck drivers in particular must exercise caution, but also those who choose the bike as a means of transport despite wintry weather. In Lower Franconia, light snowfall must be expected.
First report from January 20, 2022: Munich – After it had been very dry in the past few weeks, snow is rolling in Bavaria again this Sunday. Meteorologists had already forecast a return of winter for the weekend at the beginning of the week, now it is here. As meteorologist Jan Schenk from The Weather Channel Germany predicts, snow showers can be expected again and again up to and including Saturday (January 22). Up to 15 centimeters of fresh snow can be expected in the state capital by Saturday afternoon.
Weather in Bavaria: snow and wind for the coming days
In the south of Bavaria there should be a little more snow*. But that’s not all: The German Weather Service (DWD) warns of seven dangers for the districts of Berchtesgadener Land, Garmisch-Partenkirchen*, Miesbach* and Oberstdorf: snowdrifts, snowfall, light snowfall in two daily sections, gusts of wind, gusts of wind* and frost. Special caution should be exercised on the road. The warnings apply primarily to Thursday, but it should also continue to snow on Friday, for example.
