Weather in Germany: How will July be? Turnaround is on the way

What will the weather be like in July 2021? It remains exciting in the second month of summer. The forecasts are becoming more and more concrete and a trend is already emerging.

Offenbach – Summer seems to have arrived in Germany. June was already strong. Extreme temperatures and tropical nights made people in the country sweat. More than 35 degrees Celsius * were measured in many regions. Such values usually only exist in late July or early August. So is this trend continuing? Initial forecasts initially showed rather average weather * for the second summer month. But the models have corrected their prediction.

From a statistical point of view, July in Germany is considered the warmest month of the year. It was particularly hot in 2019. In the last third of the month, the 40-degree mark was cracked in many regions. The hottest place was Lingen in Lower Saxony, where a whopping 42.6 degrees were measured – a heat record. Also in 2020 there was a short but intense heat wave at the end of the month, which mainly hit the south of the country, as reported by the German Weather Service (DWD) * based in Offenbach. Is there a threat of such a heat hammer in July 2021?

What will the weather be like in July 2021? Vacation time in Germany

Temperatures above 30 degrees would especially be enjoyed by those who are on vacation in Germany in July. Since the summer holidays start in July in many federal states, the month counts as the main holiday time. Only students from Berlin, Brandenburg, Hamburg, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Schleswig-Holstein start their holidays a little earlier.

Long-term models initially calculated an average and changeable summer * 2021. As recently as May, the outlook for Germany felt rather too cool. Only in the south of the country was there a slight increase in July. This has changed now. “The latest calculations give summer fans in particular reason to hope,” says Corinna Borau from wetter.com in her summer forecast.

In June, a heat wave made Germany sweat. Will it continue like this in July?

Weather in Germany: Forecast for July 2021 – “Bathing temperatures”

Now it could get warmer and drier. The European long-term model (ECMWF) shows significantly warmer values for July. “Bathing temperatures of over 25 or over 30 degrees are easily in there,” says Borau. The American land-term model (NOAA) sees it similarly. “A positive temperature deviation spreads across Germany. In the south it is even one or two degrees too warm, ”summarizes the meteorologist. But it should be too dry again for that.

But according to the experts from wetter.de, the prospects until the end of July also include some ascent and descent, which could well be linked to showers and thunderstorms *. Overall, however, the trend is towards a warm and dry July. It remains to be seen whether there will even be heat waves again. As always with the weather, current trends should be treated with caution. According to graduate meteorologist Dominik Jung from wetter.net, at least for the end of June and the beginning of July it does not look like the heat. “It stays at normal temperatures”.

It remains exciting with a view to the rest of the summer. Because the fact is: the weather extremes are increasing. Even in August it should be too dry. “The drought in particular could become a problem,” said Jung in his summer forecast. (svw) * op-online.de is an offer from IPPEN.MEDIA.
