Sahara air brings Germany midsummer weather. Even over 30 degrees are possible. But how long does the heat stay?
Offenbach – The summer was largely absent in Germany. While southern Europe struggled with extreme heat and temperatures of sometimes over 40 degrees, the weather * in our country has been rather wet and gray so far. But that will change in August. Sahara air sloshes into Germany and ensures midsummer weather. One expert even anticipates a heat wave.
Meteorologists speak of a heat wave if the 30 degree mark is cracked for at least three days. And that is exactly what will be the case in mid-August. At the top, temperatures around 35 or 36 degrees Celsius * are possible. So summer * turns up again and makes Germany sweat a lot. In some holiday regions it is getting really hot again.
Weather in Germany: Sahara air creates heat – temperatures rise
Extreme temperatures are sometimes expected in Spain, Portugal and the Balearic Islands. Up to 40 degrees are possible. In the south of the Iberian Peninsula, the values can even rise to 46 or 47 degrees. “As a holidaymaker and of course a local, you have to endure a lot of heat in the coming days,” says graduate meteorologist Dominik Jung * Weather Service Q.met to wetter.net.

In Germany, summer high Elfi in particular ensures summery weather and that will stay with us for a few days. The southwest is the starting point. There are already whopping temperatures of up to 30 degrees on Wednesday (August 11th, 2021). Then it goes on in the south and east of the country. Friday and Saturday will be really warm in the middle of summer – 35 or 36 degrees are possible locally. The German Weather Service (DWD) *, based in Offenbach, also predicts a really summery August weekend. But with the heat, thunderstorms come again. Occasionally, these are occasionally possible locally.
Weather in August: How long will the heat stay in Germany?
But how long will the beautiful weather in Germany last? After the rain, the thunderstorms and sometimes thunderstorms, many would like to see a longer period of dry and sunny weather. According to meteorologist Jung, it remains to be seen whether the heat will only last two or three days or a few more. “The prognosis is still a bit shaky”.

There are already great uncertainties with the forecasts for Sunday and Monday. Because two air masses are exactly opposite each other. Cold air wants to flow to Germany from the north, the very hot Sahara air sits in the south. It is a battle of the air masses – who will ultimately win is currently still open. According to Jung, the American weather model sees an advantage for the cold air masses at least for Tuesday (August 17, 2021). “It depends on small nuances, whether a lot of heat or rather the cool air from north-western Europe is sucked in.” And how will the weather continue in August?

What will the weather be like in August in Germany? Expert gives a little hope
The long-term forecasts up to August 26th see a smaller drop in temperatures after the heat in Germany. But there are also individual outliers and they are tough. “Individual calculations skyrocket,” says Jung. So it could get really warm again in the last summer month in the weather. “The last word has not yet been spoken here,” says Jung. (svw) * op-online.de is an offer from IPPEN.MEDIA.
