Summer gets going in June. An expert gives hope for the weather in Germany – but warns of dangers.
Current update: What sobering forecasts were there for the weather in June with plenty of rain and violent temperature drops. But because of that, suddenly there is no longer any talk of a stumbling block into the summer. On the contrary: the weather in Germany really picks up speed in June. “Just in time for the start of the meteorological summer, the weather situation has changed,” explains the expert, qualified meteorologist, Dominik Jung. But the turnaround also harbors dangers.
“Hoch Waltraud brings a lot of sunshine and warmth to Germany,” says Jung. But watch out: “The risk of sunburn is now extremely high. In the past few weeks we have been indoors a lot and hardly outside. Our skin first has to get used to the sun’s rays, otherwise sunburn can easily occur, ”warns the expert. Nevertheless, the joy outweighs the first days of summer of the year: “This June seems to be exactly as announced by the US weather service NOAA: a real feel-good summer month,” says Jung. The 20-degree mark is being cracked everywhere. On average, the temperatures should rise to 25 to degrees Celsius. “Now the summer is going full throttle,” said the weather expert.

Weather in Germany: “Tropical feeling” with potential for severe weather – the expert advises caution
And with the summer we are also facing the first severe thunderstorms. “A low is approaching from Spain and France. That brings muggy warm air masses. Therefore, from tomorrow there will be thunderstorms with potential for severe weather in the west almost every day, ”says Dominik Jung. In some places there is even a threat of flash floods, “as these thunderstorms move very slowly from place to place,” warns the expert from the Q.met weather service. “Within a few minutes, there can be significant amounts of rain. In addition, it is increasingly humid and uncomfortable. ”As a result, even 20 to 23 degrees should feel very uncomfortable. So there is “a little tropical feeling” when it comes to the weather in Germany. And how long does the tropical summer last?
According to the expert, the end of the warm weather in Germany is not in sight for the time being. The impending sheep cold * is also not recognizable. “There is now a lot of tinder in the weather again. Only one thing is not foreseeable: a temperature drop in the sheep’s cold, ”says Jung. Those are beautiful prospects. The summer weather comes at exactly the right time, especially for the catering trade. “The outdoor catering is allowed to reopen almost everywhere and the perceived“ lockdown ”in the weather finally ends just in time,” says the expert. “That drives people into the beer gardens and ice cream parlors. The nice weather comes at the right time. “

Weather in Germany: warmth egg on the march – expert gives hope
Update from Tuesday, May 25th, 2021: The weather will finally get going in June. After May had disappointed across the board, an expert is now even speaking of the “weather map of hope”. Because a “heat bubble” is opening. And this could finally ensure peak temperatures and lots of sun in Germany.
Graduate meteorologist Dominik Jung from the weather service Q.met finally has good news ready for the weather in Germany. “There could be something in the bush at the turn of the month,” he explains. The American weather model calculates a “heat bubble” for the meteorological beginning of summer on June 1st and the following days. “Maximum values of 25 degrees would then be possible, in the west and southwest even just under 30 degrees,” Jung emphasizes to wetter.net. But how sustainable is this change in weather really?

Weather in Germany: will it stay that warm in June?
“There are always rain signals. In other words, it’s not really constant heat, ”says the qualified meteorologist, taking the wind out of the sails of summer fans. Although the temperature curve rises slowly, there is no trace of resistance in warm weather. It will probably only be a “lightning summer visit and then the warmth will be gone again”, Jung ends his prognosis.
| Weather in June | Average values in Germany |
|---|---|
| Mean temperature minimum | 11.5 degrees |
| Mean temperature maximum | 20 degrees |
| Mean monthly total precipitation | 81.3 millimeters |
| Average number of hours of sunshine per day | 7.1 hours |
| Average number of days with precipitation | 11 days |

Weather in Germany: will June fall into the water? – Expert gives sinister forecast
First report from Wednesday, May 19, 2021: Offenbach – Germany is shivering and looking forward to the summer. There has been no trace of spring * or even early summer temperatures since the heat hammer on Mother’s Day. But will the weather * finally get better again in June – and above all warmer? Expert and graduate meteorologist Dominik Jung from the weather service Q.met gives little hope in this regard.
Not only felt the weather in Germany in spring 2021 was clearly too cold. As the expert announces, this feeling is also borne out by the bare figures: “It was the coldest April in 40 years. It is currently the coldest May in 10 years and now we are also getting the cold receipt for the entire spring of 2021. This currently has an average temperature of 6.5 degrees *, says Jung. It was last that cold in 1987, but then even a little colder. The average temperature was 6.1 degrees according to the weather records. “So we are currently experiencing the coldest spring (March, April and May) in 34 years,” says Jung. So the hopes of the people in Germany rest on June. Especially after the mixed weather in May. But does the first official summer month keep what it promises?

Weather in Germany: experts give little hope for summer in June
The expert’s forecast for June weather in Germany is sobering. “The prospects for summer * are no better either. The US weather service NOAA expects an average summer. For the first time in years, NOAA’s summer forecast shows no orange or red colors over Germany, i.e. no positive temperature deviations, ”Dominik Jung explains to the weather portal wetter.net. Especially in the recent past, people in Germany are more used to “too warm” summers – also in view of climate change. “But this year everything is different,” says Jung. So it’s not good news for the Germans who have been drenched in the sun in recent years.
Instead of temperatures above 25 degrees and plenty of sun, the summer month of June threatens to fall into the water when it comes to weather *, reports ruhr24.de. too cold ‘summer, because we are only used to’ warm ‘summers ”, explains the weather expert. The warm season of the year in Germany has a hard time getting going, just like spring. The general weather situation with cool temperatures, plenty of rain * and even one or the other thunderstorm * is currently bogged down.
“Very bitter prospects” for the weather in June: warm air gives way to Germany
Warmer air masses, on the other hand, steer clear of Germany. Dominik Jung speaks of “very bitter prospects, especially since we are currently still not really able to travel to warm regions. Now June also threatens to be hypothermic ”. The people of the eastern Mediterranean and Russia were able to enjoy better weather in spring. In Moscow there was already midsummer weather with temperatures around 30 degrees. Germans can only dream of that at the moment. And with no concrete prospect of improvement: “We are stuck in the cold hole and that for an indefinite period of time”, Dominik Jung makes a gloomy June forecast.
A very similar forecast for the weather in Germany also results from the model of the European weather service. There it is assumed that June will be too cool. “So summer is not yet getting underway,” says Jung, summarizing the forecasts for the first month of summer.
Weather in Germany: Rain relieves the strain on nature – heat waves possible
The current situation has something good, at least for nature: the heavy rain in spring at least helps to compensate for the significant precipitation deficit of recent years. Summer weather with heat and drought would be a disaster for nature in Germany. According to current weather forecasts *, the summer will be a bit too dry overall, as Dominik Jung explains: “So it doesn’t look like a too cool and wet summer. Rather a too cool and slightly too dry summer. After the warmth of the past few years, this could just be a feel-good summer. But one way or another: these are all just trends. Nobody should plan their vacation accordingly. “
Because – and with that the meteorologist gives people in Germany a little hope – “at some point the weather situation will also change.” When the time will come cannot be predicted at this point in time. “Of course, that doesn’t rule out the possibility that there might be a short heat wave or two this summer,” says Jung.
