The humid and hot temperatures significantly increase the risk of storms. Germany has to adjust to turbulent weather.
Offenbach – After an extreme heat wave, Germany is now rolling over heavy thunderstorms. The days of hot temperatures above 30 degrees have heated up the air properly, so that the potential for thunderstorms * increases enormously. However, experts do not speak of ordinary thunderstorms in the forecast.
The sudden onset of midsummer with peak values of 35.5 degrees created a humid and hot air mass, which now ensures particularly turbulent weather. On the night of Sunday (June 20th, 2021) severe thunderstorms passed over parts of Rhineland-Palatinate, North Rhine-Westphalia and Lower Saxony – accompanied by hail, heavy rain showers and gusts of 96 km / h. But according to weather expert Felix Dietzsch from the German Weather Service (DWD) *, that was just the beginning.

On Sunday (June 20th, 2021) in the afternoon in Germany, heavy thunderstorms are expected to approach from the southwest and pose a great risk of storms *. A kind of thunderstorm line forms that can extend over several hundred kilometers.

The line runs from the Upper Rhine over large parts of Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, Hesse, Saarland, Rhineland-Palatinate, Thuringia, Saxony-Anhalt and Saxony. “It differs from the thunderstorms that have occurred so far this year mainly in that larger areas of the area will be affected this time. Up to now, heavier thunderstorms have usually only occurred in a very localized manner. With the arrival of the line, the weather can change drastically.
Weather in Germany: In addition to violent thunderstorms, tornadoes are also possible
Rain showers with amounts of rain of over 40 liters per square meter, strong hail with sizes up to five centimeters, hurricane gusts of up to 115 kilometers per hour are to be expected. According to the weather expert, you even have to be prepared for tornadoes. In order to be able to prepare for the storms accordingly, the DWD has indicated when the storms will arrive in which regions.

From the late afternoon on Sunday (June 20th, 2021), the weather will initially change in the southwest of Germany: Severe storms are approaching and spreading north-eastwards in the course of the evening. At night, the thunderstorms with hail and storm are expected to hit the central regions of Germany. With the violent storms, temperature drops to just over 10 degrees can follow. Nevertheless, the air remains humid, so that uncomfortable weather can also be expected in the coming week. (Teresa Toth) * op-online.de is an offer from IPPEN.MEDIA.
