A cold pole over Germany could cause unusual winter weather. But what about snow and a white Christmas?
Kassel – A rather disappointing summer in Germany is coming to an end. At the beginning of October it is still friendly and pleasant. Outside, people try to enjoy the last warm rays of sunshine before autumn and winter set the tone for months.
How do current forecasts see the weather * at the beginning of winter? Anyone who hopes for a white Christmas in December will be seriously disappointed – the wallet could also suffer from the temperatures.
Weather: Experts dare forecast for December – freezing cold threatens
The model of the European Center for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (EZMW) expects December to be too cold, as graduate meteorologist Dominik Jung from wetter.net announced. A cold pole is expected in the middle and south of Germany. In the north of Europe, on the other hand, it is expected to be significantly warmer in parts. The temperatures in December in Western Europe should be normal.
“That’s pretty unusual,” says weather expert Jung. “In the past few years, it was always forecast that December would be too warm – and now that December is too cold? That is rather unusual. “
In addition, December could be too dry in large parts of Central and Western Europe, as calculated by the European weather model. That speaks for a sustained high pressure area and rather calm winter weather, so Jung – “high fog, cloudy, rather cloudy, but also relatively cool”.
Weather: White Christmas unlikely again – cold December expected
Anyone hoping for snow this December will be disappointed. This weather situation would not be the big snow-maker. Jung does not rule out that the forecasts will change in the coming weeks. However, the meteorologist warns of the possible effects of a cold winter on our wallets: The prices for electricity and gas are currently rising sharply *. “It could be a cold and wintry December, but probably also a very expensive month.”
In contrast to the European weather model, the American weather model reckons with a completely normal December. The first snow in Germany should fall in October – in the middle of golden autumn. (lrg) * hna.de is an offer from IPPEN.MEDIA.
