Weight loss surgery ends diabetes

sobrepeso2Theweight loss surgeryIt seemschange the body’s metabolism in a way that diet alone cannot, which helps to explain why diabetes usually disappears after this operation, even long before you lose weight. It is the conclusion of a study by Columbia University in New York and Duke University in North Carolina, in the United States.

Weight loss surgery is becoming increasingly popular as obese people find it difficult to lose weight and avoid the health complications that accompany extra pounds, including diabetes, heart disease, joint pain and some cancers. For the study, the teams measured metabolites, chemical by-products of food in the body. The researchers found that, unlike diet, gastric bypass changes a person’s metabolism by significantly lowering amino acid levels-compounds linked to obesity, diabetes and insulin resistance- in circulation.

People with gastric bypass underwent the operation known as Roux-en-Y , in which doctors surgically reduce the size of the stomach to prevent patients from eating too much . Newgard said that it is not clear why reducing the size of the stomach would have this effect, but it is clear that bariatric surgery generates important metabolic changes. Understanding how gastric bypass affects metabolism could shed light on treatments for type 2 diabetes, a global epidemic strongly linked to obesity and poor exercise.

The disease that makes your urine taste like honey?: Diabetes Mellitus

Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease that affects the pancreas and its ability to produce insulin, which manifests itself with high blood sugar levels

Having a lot of fat in the blood is more dangerous than we think

Not only is it harmful at the cardiovascular level, but it could worsen metabolic diseases such as type 2 diabetes, which affect people with obesity.

Obesity: It is not solved only with diet and exercise

One of the biggest science (and society) missteps of our time is arguably our poor understanding of obesity.

They find a biomarker that predicts the risk of diabetes 20 years in advance

Type 2 diabetes is a growing global epidemic, with 6% of the world's population suffering from this disease.

What is the ideal blood sugar level to prevent heart attacks?

People with diabetes are at higher risk for strokes and heart attacks, and controlling blood sugar is crucial to preventing these problems.
