Deodorants are products that contain perfumes to mask body odor and germicides, such as triclosan, to kill odor-producing bacteria by acting on perspiration residues and sebum (natural body oil). They are used mainly in the armpits , permanently hot and humid areas where sweat, largely odorless, tends to be fermented by bacteria emitting an unpleasant aroma.
When they are also antiperspirants , deodorants contain aluminum and zirconium chlorides and hydroxides that plug the openings of the sweat glands preventing sweat from flowing to the surface.
