What are robotic telescopes?

These are observation instruments that can work without human intervention, thanks to computerized devices such as automatic focusing systems , CCD cameras, detectors of meteorological conditions, and so on. Generally small or medium in size, they allow the astronomer to access, through the Internet, the data they collect from places far from the telescope.

Some of these robotic scopes form a network to study some unusual astronomical phenomena in common. This is the case of the Spanish BOOTES project , to which the Telma robotic device, installed in Algarrobo Costa (Málaga), has just been incorporated. Both Telma and the other three stations included in the program are dedicated to sweeping the sky in search of bursts of gamma rays, the most violent phenomenon in the universe.
