Niagara Falls Maid of the Mist Paseo en bote

Tours and classes

4.8

Couples can’t get much closer to the Falls than at Maid of the Mist . You’ll get a complimentary poncho when you board, and you’ll need it – the boat sails downstream from the falls, pulling you so close that you’ll feel the mist on your face. (If you don’t want to get wet, you can get inside.)

Depending on weather conditions, the tour begins in April or May and generally ends for the season in October.

Open Jet Boat Tour de las cataratas

If sailing near thunder falls on the softest

not exciting enough, imagine doing it on a speedboat. The ride, which takes about an hour, accelerates into the rough waters as they feel increasingly wet (ponchos are provided). This budget trip is one of the most popular activities in Niagara Falls.

Niagara-on-the-Lake Wine Tasting Tour

While The Falls is worth seeing (and experiencing it on water, land, and air), the city of Niagara Falls is a tourist trap with plenty of tacky family attractions.

If you prefer something more sophisticated after seeing the natural wonder, the charming town of Niagara-on-the-Lake is just a 20-minute drive away. A small-group tour familiarizes you with the city and region and also takes you to vineyards to enjoy a wine and cheese tasting at a selection of wineries. This area is famous for producing sweet and delicious iced wine, a perfect addition to dessert. Some tours include a meal.

Niagara Falls Duty Free

Don’t leave Niagara Falls without stopping by their extensive duty-free shop. If you’ve developed a taste for ice wine, this is the place to pick up a few bottles before heading home (rather than picking them up on your trip). Many other brands of spirits are also sold here at lower prices than what you can find at home.

It’s also the place to shop for Canadian specialties like genuine maple syrup and Nestle’s delicious Coffee Crisp candy bars, which put Hershey to shame.

New items (like spirits and flavored spirits) and limited-edition products will tempt you to spend your last Canadian dollars (US currency is also accepted and cashiers will calculate the conversion for you).

The store also has an extensive cosmetics department offering Clinique, Christian Dior, Elizabeth Arden, Estée Lauder, Lancome, Shiseido and Biotherm cosmetics. The duty-free shop, which is located across from the falls on the Canadian side, has a great lookout beyond its parking lot with a beautiful view. Keep in mind:

  • Dutyfree no longer reimburses visitors for purchases made in Canada that include VAT tax.
  • Do not try to return Cuban cigars to the US, where they are illegal. If you smoke cigarettes, buy them and light them on the Canadian side.
