A study carried out a few years ago by scientists from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), in the United States, revealed that there are three components of food that strengthen synapses – connections between neurons – and increase cognitive abilities after consuming them regularly for only four weeks. It is the choline , present in the eggs; uridine monophosphate , contained in beets; and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) , a polyunsaturated essential fatty acid that we engineer through fatty fish such as salmon and sardines, as well as in some algae.
In experiments with rodents, the researchers found that consuming these three ingredients daily not only improved task performance and cognitive abilities, but also produced obvious biochemical changes in neural synapses that increased intelligence.
