Celopathy, celotypic delirium or Othello syndrome is a delusional disorder characterized by excessive and irrational concern about the partner's infidelity . The patient, normally a man, is absolutely convinced that his partner is unfaithful to him for no real reason to justify it. In these patients, the rival takes on special importance: he wants to know who he is, how he met him, how he is better, constantly exposing this morbid curiosity, and looking for contradictions in his partner's responses that feed his conviction.
It is a true embodiment of Othello's attitude and thoughts towards Desdemona in Shakespeare's celebrated play.
