It is not firefly, but the firefly (Pyrophorus noctilucus), also known as tucu-tucu. It is a beetle from tropical America, about three centimeters long, oblong, brown, with two yellowish spots on the sides of the thorax through which it emits a rather vivid bluish light at night. Spend the day in the woods sheltered from the heat, and take off at sunset.
Its name derives from the Greek words pyro , 'fire', and phorus , 'carrier'.
