There is something in which Spain can boast of being a superpower. According to a report just released by the online platform Back Market, 92% of Spaniards have at least one smartphone, which places us, together with Singapore, at the world leader in the penetration of these devices.
The study indicates that the number of people who own a mobile phone in our country has doubled in the last five years, although the growth of consumption in this sector could have already stagnated. The latest reports from consultancies Worldpanel and Deloitte indicate that sales have dropped 11 percent so far this year .
This slowdown must be attributed, among other causes, to the fact that users increasingly opt for the alternative of restoring or 'reconditioning' their old mobiles , a business to which the Back Market company is dedicated.
It is a trend that, more attenuated, is also perceived globally: the IDC consultancy indicates that during the second half of 2016 , 343 million new terminals were shipped worldwide , representing a decline of 0.3 percent with respect to the same period of 2015.
Another recent report, published by the Zenith media agency, reaffirms Spain's leadership in the use of mobile technology: in 2016, 85% of online traffic occurred in our country through a smartphone . The second place is held by Hong Kong (79%) and the third, China (76%).
