The weather in spring 2022 in Germany will be unusual. First forecasts show a clear trend.
Kassel – The birds are chirping, the first flowers are blooming and maybe even some days it is t-shirt weather: Many people long for the dreary winter months after spring. But how will the weather * be in March, April and May in Germany? Will there be another March winter or will the 20-degree mark be cracked? First forecasts give hope.
From a meteorological point of view, spring begins on March 1st, and from astrological point of view not until March 20th. A look at the past few years gives hope to sun lovers. Spring has always been too warm since 2013 – with one exception. The spring of 2021 was clearly too cool, reports the German Weather Service (DWD) in Offenbach. In particular, cool north winds in April and the influx of fresh sea air in May depressed the temperature. But what will the weather be like in spring in Germany in 2022?
Weather in Germany: 20 degrees in spring? Meteorologist gives hope
The good news for all sun lovers: A March winter is not in sight for the time being. “March winter means that there could be some late winter escapades again in March. After a mild winter it happened again and again that the cold and the snow did not strike until very late in March. However, this is currently not foreseeable. It looks more like a real warm start in March ”, explains graduate meteorologist Dominik Jung from wetter.net.
According to current forecasts by the American and European weather services, the weather in spring in Germany is likely to be too warm. The models calculate with temperatures that are up to three degrees above the climate mean for the years 1991 to 2020. “That would be a huge deviation upwards. Temperatures of more than 20 degrees seem to be very likely, ”says Jung Warmthfriends with hope.

According to the calculation of the long-term models, this trend in spring weather should continue in April and May. Both months are said to be significantly too warm in Germany – up to two degrees Celsius. The forecasts for precipitation are more mixed.
