What's new at CES Las Vegas 2019

Hello bionic companions! We inaugurate a new video blog at Muy Inteligencia Artificial. Subscribe here so you don’t miss any of our videos!

January is, without a doubt, the month of CES in Las Vegas . We have not left Christmas behind when you have to fly to the city of the game to see the greatest spectacle of consumer electronics there.

And there, this year, we have been able to observe that everything already revolves around artificial intelligence . Nothing, no self-respecting company that wants to sell something can stop integrating this technology.

But we have also seen how another technology that is about to begin to be deployed, and we are talking about 5G, is going to emerge, in conjunction with artificial intelligence and all its techniques (recognition of images, speech, text, language processing. , machine learning, deep learning, …) to result in what is called the Internet of Things or IoT (Internet of Things), or now the Internet of All Things, IoAT (Internet of All Things). Billions of connected devices is what all these connected technologies will bring about.

Such as cars, connected and autonomous . In this 2019 edition we have been able to see them of all colors and of all brands. Since I can’t talk about everyone in this video, I’m going to show you some of the ones that have caught my attention. Hyundai , for example, showed a wild car with four wheels and four legs called the Elevate . Designed to roll and fight your way through difficult terrain, or to help a person in a wheelchair climb the steps of their stone house. This smart concept car shows what is possible by combining robotics and autonomous driving technologies.

Autonomous driving

Mercedes also showed ‘ URBANETIC ‘, a revolutionary mobility concept that goes far beyond existing ideas about autonomous vehicles. Vision URBANETIC enables the movement of people and goods on demand, in a sustainable and efficient way, and applies an innovative approach to meet the needs of cities, companies from various sectors, as well as city dwellers and travelers. The concept reduces traffic flows, alleviates city infrastructures and contributes to improving the quality of urban life.

Bosch also showed as a world first at CES this year, among other smart solutions, its in-house developed shuttle vehicle concept. With this automated, connected and electrified vehicle Bosch showed its commitment to a new type of mobility: driverless shuttles, which will soon be part of cities around the world.

Another example: Intel and Warner Bros. demonstrated their potential for immersive entertainment in a world of autonomous driving with a world-class concept car at CES 2019. The car transports occupants to Gotham City, home of the superhero Batman. Through a virtual ride and 270 degree entertainment.

Smart voice assistants

If we move to the field of intelligent voice assistants, at CES 2019 the tough fight that Google and Amazon maintain in the American market, and that they want to transfer to the rest of the world, has been exacerbated.

The consulting firm Fast Company dares to say that virtual assistants, and more with the help of 5G and the explosion of AI, will be everywhere. Everything we have at home will have a voice assistant. Another thing will be that we use it.

For the first time in history, Amazon published the number of devices with Alexa it had sold, 100 million. A figure that integrates not only your Echo devices, but also third-party equipment, such as smart coffee makers or speakers from different brands.

Google quickly retorted at the Las Vegas casino gaming table to Amazon to point out that there are a billion devices using its assistants. And more there is going to be with the panoply of AI ads made as a Google Assistant interpreter mode to do live translations between two people who speak different languages; Google Assistant Connect, a platform that enables third-party device manufacturers to more easily integrate the assistant into their products; a smart alarm clock made by Lenovo; a smart kitchen display, KitchenAid, which is waterproof and created by Whirlpool; or the Google smart assistant built into Sonos speakers or Samsung Smart TVs, or in different devices from other brands such as Sony, Hisense, Philips, TCL, Skyworth, Xiaomi, Haier, Changhong, JVC and Toshiba.
