WhatsApp will not limit the accounts of users who do not accept its new privacy policy

After the new privacy policy of the popular instant messaging application officially came into force, especially after Facebook, its owner, was forced to delay it due to criticism from hundreds of thousands of users at the beginning of the year , many users feared that their use (and their account itself) would be limited.

And, as we discovered a few days ago, WhatsApp was going to limit the accounts of those users who had not accepted its new privacy policy. But apparently this is an old idea that will no longer work.

At that time, the application itself had informed that it was going to limit some basic functionalities of the aforementioned app, such as not being able to receive messages or read them, which at most would become a measure almost similar to deleting the account of the user in question.

However, now all those users who have not accepted the new privacy policy , implemented at the beginning of this month , could continue to use their WhatsApp account without any limitation . At least for now.

Something that has surprised many, especially after the chat service itself published a support article stating that they were going to progressively limit the functions that users can access, until the moment they accept the new terms of use. .

However, according to TheNextWeb , now WhatsApp would have changed its approach in the hope of maintaining the volume of users it currently has (we do not know if in fear of losing them if it made such a strict decision, something that is, incidentally, quite foreseeable).

As the company indicates, “given the recent discussions with various authorities and privacy experts, we want to make it clear that we currently have no plans to limit the functionality of WhatsApp for those who have not yet accepted the update.”

And they go on to say that, “Instead, we will continue to remind users, from time to time, about the update, as well as when people choose to use relevant optional features, such as contacting a company that is supported by Facebook.”

On its support page, which has just been updated, WhatsApp has indicated that, for now, it has no plans for the reminders to become fixed or persistent, so it is most likely that they will appear occasionally, without being tiresome or annoying. for the user.

We must remember that, at the beginning of the year, many users criticized the instant messaging application, because they understood that the app “forced” them to share more data with Facebook, something that resulted in the company being forced to postpone the launch of your new privacy policy.

Thus, after making excuses under the pretext of “confusion and misinformation” around the new policy, WhatsApp decided to reintroduce it in February, giving users more time to review the changes and accept them.
