Almost all of us have observed our tendency to stick the tip of the tongue out when we are fully immersed in a task . There are several hypotheses that try to explain this unconscious gesture. Desmond Morris, a prestigious English zoologist and ethologist, argues that it is a hereditary and universal gesture that informs others that someone is focused . According to this idea, sticking out the tip of the tongue would mean: "Stay away. Don't bother me. I'm busy ."
Other experts suggest that by taking the tongue out of the mouth and keeping it still between the lips, we can eliminate the number of stimuli that reach the brain , leaving more neurons available for others to correctly perform other activities that require our full attention.
