I want to talk about a couple of Xiaomi devices. One recently presented, on Tuesday of this week, and another that he taught and announced at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Redmi Note 7 and Mi 9, respectively. They are the last two teams launched by the Chinese manufacturer that, literally, is hitting it in Spain. And if it continues with the same policy, that of bringing to the market devices of a more than acceptable technological quality, and in some of them with innovations that have nothing to envy those introduced by the most premium brands, “at an honest price “As they say, it can hit it even more.
This is the reason why, according to Xiaomi at the recently concluded event in Barcelona, and reiterated in the presentation of the Redmi Note 7, the Chinese manufacturer is the one who sells the most smart devices on the free market in Spain, when it only carries in our market just over 16 months. And those are big words, since in our country about 10 million smartphones are sold per year, and 60% do so outside the official stores of the operators. That Xiaomi has been able to lead this territory, even for at least a month, leaving behind Samsung, Huawei and the rest of manufacturers with more experience such as LG or Sony Mobile, means that it has connected with a segment of customers who want innovation and technology at a reasonable price, if not fair.
We have already asked several times in this Blog if it is necessary to spend a thousand euros or more for an intelligent terminal, no matter how many innovations it introduces. But, for example, the Xiaomi Mi 9 has, saving all the distances that technological purists want, many of the characteristics that the new Samsung Galaxy S10 may have, but the price is half, or a third if compares with the top of the range of the Korean firm. Mi 9 has the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor, with the best capabilities in artificial intelligence (AI), with a fingerprint sensor under the screen, just like the S10; with triple camera with a scene recognition AI software and a main sensor that includes a 48 Megapixel camera and a night mode to take photos in low light in which the artificial intelligence capabilities of the equipment also intervene.
It also has fast charging, although not reverse charging like the Samsung S10 to charge other devices that have the Qi protocol. The screens of both teams are almost identical in size, 6.4 inches and Amoled from the Samsung compared to 6.39 from the Xiaomi and Super Amoled; and the facial unlocking is very similar, although none of them with 3D technology like the new iPhone Xs and Xs Max and the Huawei Mate 20 Pro. 499 is the price of the Xiaomi Mi 9, while the Samsung Galaxy S10 + with 1TB of memory surpasses the 1,600 euros.
But it is that Xiaomi, to petarlo, has just announced, in its low-end equipment, Redmi Note 7. More than enough for those who also want a camera with artificial intelligence capabilities, with a sensor in addition to 48 Megapixels, like the Mi 9, a huge 6.3-inch screen, and a more than acceptable 4,000 milliamp (mAh) battery to last all day without remembering to plug it into the light to power it. And also with fast charging, and a night mode to take photos with the same quality as its aforementioned older brother. And for what price? 179 euros for the most adjusted version in RAM and memory, 3GB of RAM and 32GB of capacity. Although the first 5,000 who buy it can buy it at 149 euros.
It is not surprising that, as they say themselves with their motto, “Xiaomi peta lo”. I can only say from what I have been able to taste of the Mi 9 is that it has everything that may be needed to take, for example, the best photos without having any idea of handling the professional parameters of a camera. I am not the one who is going to carry out a detailed study of the smartphone to talk about all its characteristics, among other things because other colleagues already do it, and much better. But what I can say, once again, is that you don’t have to spend a thousand euros to have a more than good smartphone, not even half. The Mi 9 can be purchased, starting today at 449 euros.
