In Mazda’s first centenary , as an automobile manufacturer, we have reviewed its milestones, the records its cars have achieved, and the beginnings of its history. A book full of bright but also dark moments, such as the destruction of the city where it was born: Hiroshima . Mazda would not be what it is without the misfortune and disaster caused by the atomic bombs , which shaped the resilient and independent character of the people who work at its factory. The brand played a key role in rebuilding its streets, focusing its production on creating the trucks necessary to transport materials and giving up its headquarters as a field hospital after the impact. But its path had started earlier, some ninety years ago, with the launch of the Mazda-Go Type-DA , a three-wheeled motorcycle. It was something entirely new, with no rivals to fight commercially against. Imitation was never in Mazda’s plans, which backs its business philosophy with courage, perseverance and a commitment to disobey conventions.
This character was transmitted to the cars that Mazda has presented throughout its history. One hundred years to whom they have paid tribute with the launch of a special edition, based on the R360 and its two-tone bodywork. That Asian microcar put the manufacturer on the map and made him a favorite with the Japanese public in 1960. Why was it so successful? For its innovative concept and fun driving, something that current models still retain. The Mazda-Go Type GA was the first, but not the last. The three-wheeled motorcycle was fitted with state-of-the-art systems for those dates, such as reverse gear or the use of lightweight materials that improved its efficiency and agility.
As the flagship of the brand itself: “At Mazda, going outside the established norms is a tradition, almost an obligation, dating back to its first vehicles. And as history shows, this attitude is the cornerstone of the company’s greatest achievements. ” A mantra that they have followed to the letter with daring such as the rotary engine of the Mazda RX-7 or the new Skyactiv-X, a gasoline block that uses spark-controlled compression ignition that would use a diesel mechanic. But that’s not all, now we tell you more.
