Why is Suson Park in St. Louis County a great place for kids?

Suson Park is a well-loved outdoor destination in the St. Louis area for children and families. Parents will drive to Suson Park in southern St. Louis County because it has something other local parks don’t: a working animal farm.

See the animals

The most popular attraction in Suson Park is the animal farm. Visitors of all ages can walk around the farm and get a close look at horses, cows, sheep, pigs, chickens, goats, and more. The animal farm has several barns and enclosed pastures where animals spend their days, along with educational posters to let visitors know what breeds of animals they are seeing. The farm is open every day from April to September from 10:30 am to 5 pm, and from October to March from 10:30 am to 3 pm Admission is free.

You can also schedule a free tour by calling (314) 615-8822.

Keep in mind that if you grew up on a farm or in the country, the Suson Park Animal Farm is small in comparison, but it gives those who live in urban areas a taste of what life is like on a farm.

Farm friday

Another great way for your children to experience Suson Park is on Farm Fridays. These special events for children are held several times a year during the warmer months. Guides offer tours of the barns to teach children all about animals and their important functions in keeping a farm running. Farm Fridays also include hayrides, face painting, candle making, pony rides, and more. Admission is $ 10 for children 12 and under. Adults are free. Farm Fridays are held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Other services

In addition to the animal farm, Suson Park has many of the same amenities that you would find at other parks in St. Louis County. There is a large outdoor play area in the middle of the park that is good for children of all ages. There are also several pavilions that can be rented for parties or picnics, many of which are shaded by large trees. For those who like to fish, there are three lakes stored by the Missouri Department of Conservation that are open for public fishing. Lastly, there is also a mile trail around the larger lake that is a good place for a walk or jog.

Place and time

Suson Park is located on nearly 100 acres at 6073 Wells Road in southern St. Louis County. It is not far from the intersection of I-270 and I-55. To get to the park, take I-55 South to Exit 193 at Meramec Bottom Road. Turn right on Meramec Bottom Road, then right again on Wells Road. Go approximately half a mile down Wells Road and turn left into the park. Suson Park is open daily from 8 am to 30 minutes after sunset.
