There are certain productions that are ahead of their time. Works that the public rejects when they see them for the first time, but that with time and several revisions recover the value that really corresponds to them. The fight club or Seven are some of the examples, but without a doubt, one of the most unnoticed is that of the movie Master and Commander: on the other side of the world . Directed by Peter Weir and starring Russell Crowe and Paul Bettany, this high seas film was coldly received by the public, back for its premiere in 2003. Among the different criticisms that were given to the production, the main one was that it was of a boring and excessively long story. Master and Commander narrated the search that a ship carried out for a French ship during the Napoleonic wars and according to Deadline, 20th Century Fox has launched a prequel about those events.
The new story will feature a script by Patrick Ness, writer of A Monster Comes to See Me and Chaos Walking , but it does not yet have a star linked to the project or a director directing the production. The original film was again on everyone’s lips during the pandemic, when a user via Twitter reproached him for his slowness: “Many people are left from lack of sleep during the pandemic. I can recommend Master and Commander, starring Russell Crowe (…) I’ve never passed the ten minute mark. Thanks Russell ”.
As in the tweet, the user quoted the actor, and he responded somewhat annoyingly: “ That is the problem with children these days. Without focus. Peter Weir’s movie is brilliant. An epic, accurate, and detail-oriented story about loyalty to the Empire and service, regardless of cost. Incredible cinematography by Russell Boyd a majestic soundtrack. Definitely an adult movie. ” Despite disappointment at the box office, this ship story garnered 10 Oscar nominations , winning best photo and sound editing. Anyway, if this prequel is successful, we can get that long-awaited sequel that fans like Russel Crowe want so much.
