It is always said that men are conquered by the stomach, but what about women? A new study carried out by the University of California in San Diego (USA) has shown that it is also true for women since the brain of women responds much more to romantic signals when they are satiated, with the full stomach . The study has been published in the journal Appetite .
In earlier research published in the journal Obesity and led by Dr. Ely, scientists explored how the brain was affected by food signals and whether these responses differed in dieters and non-dieters. Study results revealed a more dramatic brain response to positive food cues (such as chocolate cake) in dieters or dieters.
In light of these results, a new study was proposed. The researchers conducted an experiment in which they compared the brain’s reward response to romantic cues in a group of women. Thus, they used MRI images while the participants observed romantic images and neutral images before they had eaten and then after they had eaten.
” We found that young women with and without a dietary history had greater brain activation in response to romantic images in reward-related neural regions after they had eaten, than when they were hungry,” explains Alicia Ely, leader of the study.
Thus, according to the study’s findings, food can also sensitize women, awakening their romantic side.
