Zack Snyder returns to zombie movies with Army of the Dead (Army of the Dead) on Netflix, an intense and bloody thriller set in a city of Las Vegas in ruins and threatened by hundreds of the undead.
This is the film that will lead to a new horror saga on the streaming service with an ending, including an epilogue, that is worth analyzing.

The entire plot of Army of the Dead revolves around the mission of veteran Scott Ward (Dave Bautista) and his group of mercenaries to infiltrate a Las Vegas casino and steal $ 200 million before the government detonates a nuclear bomb. over the city, totally cut off from the rest of the world after it was taken over by zombies.
The film soon turns into a fight against the clock to survive in which, in addition to the succulent loot, it also has its own motivations to enter the city plagued by the undead.
The mercenary team includes Ward’s former teammate Vanderohe (Omari Hardwick), mechanic María Cruz (Ana de la Reguera), helicopter pilot Marianne Peters (Tig Notaro), and German safe-cracker Ludwig Dieter (Matthias). Schweighöfer), millionaire Tanaka’s head of security named Martin (Garret Dillahunt) as well as Scott’s daughter Kate (Ella Purnell) and the city-bound expert known as Coyote (Nora Andezerner).

Many mercenaries manage to reach the casino, but the extraction is soon complicated by a series of events. The first one is that Martin beheads the queen of the Alphas to take her head (which was the real order that Tanaka had given him, who was not interested in the 200 million but in having a sample of DNA from the alphas to create an army) which causes the alpha zombies – led by the creature known as Zeus – to declare war on the humans, attacking the casino en masse.
Dieter manages to open the safe, but he and Vanderohe are attacked by the King of the Alphas and, to save the soldier’s life, the young locksmith leaves him locked in the safe. Meanwhile, the government has advanced the launch of the nuclear bomb … and despite Marianne’s efforts, the helicopter remains inoperable.
Little by little, they all die before the push of the alpha zombies until they only manage to get on the helicopter of Marianne Peters Ward and her daughter Kate, who previously escaped to rescue her friend Geeda from the lair of the Alphas. Giving everyone up for lost – including Vanerohe who gets trapped in the safe – Ward goes looking for his daughter, and a final brutal confrontation with King Alpha takes place as the helicopter barely escapes Las Vegas, and the bomb nuclear falls on the city.

Although Ward manages to finish off the Alpha King with a shot to the head, he had already bitten him. The helicopter crashes outside of Las Vegas and Peters and Geeda are killed. The only one who survives is Kate, who has to witness her father die first and then quickly turn into a zombie. Trying to bite the bullet, and before Bautista’s character attacks her, he executes her with an accurate shot to the head. But that is not all…
Because Army of the Dead has a kind of epilogue that reveals what happened to Vanerohe. The soldier has managed to escape from the safe after the explosion and has managed to remove several bags full of money from the casino. With great difficulty, devastated after his confrontation with the Alpha king, he manages to leave the devastated Las Vegas and first get a car in an abandoned house and then arrive at an airfield where, putting several wads of bills on the table, he rents a plane private.

Everything seems to be going well for the war veteran, but while toasting with the hostesses he suffers a dizziness. Going to the bathroom to cool off, he realizes that King Alpha managed to bite him on the arm during the fight. So the virus is still alive and, what is more important, through Vanerohe it goes to Mexico City, where very possibly the sequel to Army of the Dead is set.
