So far, the 2022 season has not lived up to the expectations of the Mercedes team. The team, or eight times (consecutively) constructors’ champion, has not achieved a single victory in the first eleven races despite having recorded seven podium finishes.
For Lewis Hamilton, author of 81 wins over the previous eight years, the team’s downfall was inevitably harsh.
However, he affirms that the bad times of Mercedes do not “let him down”, and that he prefers to conceive the adventure in its entirety, considering the current situation as a way to strengthen himself.
“In the beginning we weren’t where we wanted to be,” said the Briton. “We made progress, we started to find some consistency. Not a single person on our team gave up and we’re still working hard, so I’m really proud of the progress and the experience we’ve had.”
“When you get to a season, this situation is not what you would ask for. But we’ve actually learned a very valuable lesson and experience. I think we’ve honed our tools in a lot of other areas, and when we get back to where I think we deserve to be, I think that we will appreciate it even more,” he added.
On a track like Paul Ricard’s at Le Castellet, where he won twice from pole position before finishing second last year, Hamilton is showing high hopes of another strong result, especially after three consecutive podium finishes.
“Every weekend we hope to improve, obviously, but I really don’t know what to expect this weekend,” the Mercedes driver said.
“We are constantly working on the car and making changes to it, so I hope that this weekend we will discover something that will be able to help us go a little further. This race is good for us in general, so I hope that this weekend week is the same”, concluded Hamilton.
