Vaccinated, tested or recovered – does the so-called 3G rule really prevent you from going to the cinemas? The industry is calling for relaxation.
Berlin – One month after many cinemas opened, the industry is pushing for changed regulations. In a letter, several associations appeal to Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) and the country leaders.
“In view of the ongoing vaccination campaign, we have to find new rules for dealing with the virus,” says the letter, which is supported by the HDF cinema and distribution associations, among others.
“We need nationwide uniform regulations – without a 3G rule”, it says in the letter. 3G means that visitors have access if they have tested negative for the coronavirus, have recovered or have been vaccinated. This still applies, for example, to going to the cinema in Berlin, the regulations vary from region to region.
The associations see disadvantages for business with the test regulation. “In comparison, federal states with a 3G rule have a drop in visitors of up to 50 percent,” the letter says. The associations suspect a connection, but it has not been proven.
On Tuesday (August 10), Merkel and the prime ministers will discuss how to proceed in the pandemic. The cinemas had to close for months. The film associations are calling on politicians to take more parameters into account in the evaluation in future. Under no circumstances should cultural venues such as cinemas be closed again across the board when the incidence increases. dpa
