It’s not even October when the Christ Child’s post office is already popping in a lot of letters from children from all over the world. Your wishes couldn’t be more different.
Engelskirchen – The Christkind post office in Engelskirchen in North Rhine-Westphalia has already received more than 5000 wish lists from children.
These include letters from countries such as Japan, Malaysia and New Zealand, said a spokeswoman for Deutsche Post on Thursday. Most of the requests include toys and handicraft sets, for example iron-on beads.
Little Annika sends a few “urgent wishes” and hopes that the Christ Child will fulfill her before Christmas: a backpack, a secret book and a good fairy. Mathea would like a surprise, felting needles and “just don’t use Brussels sprouts”. Marcel would like two rabbits and a time machine.
As in the previous year, the corona crisis plays a role in many letters. “I hope that Corona will be gone soon,” said a letter. School lessons via video conferencing are “terrible”, writes Hendrik.
It will take some time before the Christ Child replies to the letters: from the first Advent, the volunteers will resume their work in the Christ Child post office. Last year around 150,000 letters from 50 countries were received in Engelskirchen. dpa
