Rail traffic is currently severely restricted on the important route between Hanover and Berlin. Local transport is also restricted.
Wolfsburg – After a shunting accident at the Enno railway company, train traffic around the Wolfsburg main station has been severely restricted since early Friday morning.
As a spokesman for Deutsche Bahn said, this also affects long-distance traffic on the important route between Hanover and Berlin.
Currently, only one track can be used to pass through the station, and the trains cannot stop in Wolfsburg yet.
There are already delays. Because overhead lines were damaged, the railway requested special vehicles. However, these should not arrive at the accident site until around noon, it said.
According to the Enno operator Metronom, a train jumped off the track while shunting at a switch. Nobody was injured, but there was considerable damage to the overhead lines. The Enno trains therefore temporarily start and end in the adjacent Fallersleben station. Buses are used on the remaining route to Wolfsburg train station.
“Currently all long-distance platforms are blocked,” said a railway spokesman. Most of the trains can initially only bypass Wolfsburg. Freight traffic is also restricted. Metronome reckons that the cleanup could drag on through Friday. dpa
