Martin Brambach doesn’t have to practice talking

Language reveals a lot about people, a dialect locates them. Born in Dresden, the actor has no problem with the Saxon tongue.

Dresden – Actor Martin Brambach’s blood is in the blood of Peter Michael Schnabel, head of police commissioner Peter Michael Schnabel’s “Tatort” in Dresden. “It’s coming up again,” said the 53-year-old from the German press agency.

Born in Dresden, he lived in the Elbe city for the first six years “and talked so much that I was teased in Berlin when I went to school”. As a child he had to try very hard to get rid of the dialect.

“But every summer I was with relatives in Halle, grandpa, aunt, cousin, so at least the clap of the tongue stuck in my ear,” said the artist, who lives in Recklinghausen (North Rhine-Westphalia). “And the amazing thing is that it’s getting more and more.” It only takes a day or two in Dresden, “and I automatically speak in slang,” he laughed. “I have to be more careful when shooting that it is not too Saxon and the figure is not too curious and gets into a corner.”

Brambach thinks that Saxon is “a very beautiful dialect” and wrongly frowned upon. “Dresden, in particular, is a cultural landscape, they are people of culture and pleasure.” And there are now “Tatort” teams from many regions, “so that you can also show where they are based on the dialect without overpowering you Local color, ”he said. “Everything in High German would also be unrealistic.”

Brambach spent his childhood and youth at the theater, his mother is a costume designer, the director and actor Karlheinz Liefers (1941-2006) was his stepfather and he also shares a passion for the stage with stepbrother Jan Josef Liefers. In 1984 he went west with his mother, graduated from high school in Hamburg and studied acting in Bochum. North Rhine-Westphalia has remained its adopted home – Brambach has lived with his family in Recklinghausen for several years. dpa
