Apparently one of the most common symptoms reported by those infected with Omicron is slightly different than previous variants of COVID-19. According to the study application of the ZOE Covid system, cold-like symptoms such as headache, runny nose, sneezing and sore throat are the most common symptoms of those who test positive for the new variant, so they could easily confused with the common colds of autumn-winter.
Differences
While many common colds and viruses produce these symptoms, the type of sore throat found in patients who test positive for the Omicron variant has been described as “scratchy,” according to South African doctor Angelique Coetzee, who has treated several patients with the variant.
Other symptoms
- Extreme fatigue or exhaustion. Patients may feel overly tired, experience low energy, and have a strong desire to rest, which can disrupt daily activities.
- Mild or moderate fever While previous strain fever had a prolonged effect in patients, the current variant induces a mild body temperature that improves on its own.
- Night sweats and body aches Night sweats could be telltale symptoms of the new variant of Omicron that can emerge at night.
- Dry cough and itchy throat.
The recently discovered Omicron variant is driving a further surge in COVID-19 cases in many countries, according to public statements made by officials at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). And because not a full month has passed since officials at the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the variant a concern, scientists still have a lot to learn about this variant.
Ómicron’s genetic makeup is very different compared to other COVID-19 strains that experts have seen so far.
