An Oktoberfest already in August due to the corona? 40 percent of those questioned could not imagine that – 31 percent, on the other hand, think the idea is good.
Munich – Many Germans cannot really imagine an Oktoberfest being brought forward to the summer due to Corona. In a survey, 40 percent of those surveyed spoke out against moving the Oktoberfest forward.
However, at least 31 percent think the idea tends to be good, as the Civey Institute survey on behalf of the “Augsburger Allgemeine” revealed (Saturday edition). According to this, 29 percent of the respondents are undecided.
City of Munich is considering proposal
The city of Munich is currently considering moving the world’s largest festival forward to prevent it from being canceled again due to the pandemic. A working group of the city council factions wants to sound out the arguments in the new week. So far, the Oktoberfest has been scheduled for this year from September 17th to October 3rd.
A prominent supporter of a summer Oktoberfest has long been Bavaria’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economic Affairs Hubert Aiwanger from the Free Voters. “We should concentrate our festivals more in the summer this year,” Aiwanger told the newspaper. How things will continue with Corona in autumn is hardly calculable.
Wiesn boss Clemens Baumgärtner, on the other hand, recently said: “For me personally, an Oktoberfest in July is hardly conceivable. And the summer holidays in Bavaria are in August. ”The German Police Union (DPolG) in Bavaria had judged the summer idea critically. The summer is the only phase in which around 30,000 police officers in the Free State can take large amounts of vacation and reduce overtime. dpa
