A mother discovers that the caretaker was secretly breastfeeding her baby for months

For many mothers who work outside the home, the care of their children must be provided by a third person and that is when, in most of these cases, a decision must be made: babysitting or daycare? Sometimes for the economic issue and for the security of knowing that a children’s room has its papers in order and has qualified personnel, we opt for that second option.

It is not easy to leave our children in the hands of others, but after deep thought we give them a vote of confidence in their care . Over time things go perfectly and we can feel comfortable leaving them, knowing that they are in good hands.

This had become the routine of a mother, until one day she arrived by surprise at the nursery where she was leaving her daughter, a baby she had adopted, and discovered that the manager of the place had been secretly breastfeeding her for months .

The mother’s story

Through an incredible anonymous account on the Slate website, a single mother, who had adopted a baby months ago, tells angrily what happened one day, when she left work early and decided to stop by before the usual time for her daughter to the nursery where she was cared for.

The story is part of a series of anonymous stories that Daniel Mallory Ortberg receives for his section on said website, called ” Dear Prudence ” and where his readers ask for advice or a solution to the problem or situation they share there.

The mother begins her story by telling that she decided to feed her daughter formula because she had been adopted and she worked outside the home, so it was not possible for her to breastfeed . Like many mothers, she found a daycare center with which she felt satisfied: it was a home nursery (with permission and papers in order) that had been operating as such for five years and, in addition, the caretaker had two small children, one of similar age to her. of her daughter, so it gave her peace of mind.

However, the first day they had an awkward moment, in which the woman who was in charge of the nursery made a face when the mother took out the formula and bottles that she would leave to feed her daughter . ” Are you going to give him that crap? ” Was the question that the manager asked, but the mother decided to ignore it because she thought it was a simple comment and that it would not go beyond there.

Two months passed, and the mother left work early on a Friday, so she decided to go to the nursery before the usual time, and take her daughter home with her . For parents who have children there, the nursery has a side door that only they know and that they can enter without knocking, so that’s what he did that day.

When she entered, one of the nursery assistants saw her and started talking to her, but the mother says she already wanted to go home, so she did not continue their conversation and went to the area where she usually went for her daughter. That was when she discovered that her daughter was being breastfed without her consent .

” I almost fell, the nursery manager was BREASTFEEDING MY BABY! ” Says the mother, saying that then she quickly approached her, took her baby out of her arms and asked the manager if she had lost her mind . ” She said that she was saving my baby from the chemicals that I was trying to force into her body, and that I should thank her for doing it all these months! “

The mother decided not to answer him, and proceeded to take the diaper bag and her baby’s things and leave quickly , but now she was telling what happened because she did not know what to do. On the one hand, he thinks that the right thing to do is to immediately report her to the company with which he works under this form of daycare at home, but he also considers that he should publish his story and the details of the daycare on social networks. Her sister, on the other hand, advises her to write to the other parents so they can make surprise visits to make sure she doesn’t do the same with her children, but the mother thinks it’s too much.

Of course, the response from Daniel, the person in charge of said column, was a surprise and told him that he should report it immediately, because despite the fact that his baby was safe and apparently nothing had happened to him, what the person in charge did was a major breach of trust, violation of your rights and something that should definitely be reported or reported.

Although we all know that breastfeeding is the best for the baby, the mother’s decision should be respected and valued, not only because her baby was adopted and she had not been able to breastfeed, but simply because it was her decision .

In addition, other factors come into play: what if the baby had an allergy? Or if the manager had a disease? Although the risk of transmission is small and there are very few diseases that can be transmitted through breastfeeding, it is not right that it has done that and less in secret from the mother .

Finally, the objective of a nursery is to be a place of trust and tranquility in which parents feel comfortable leaving their children, and it should be the obligation of the providers of this service to respect the decisions about feeding and caring for them. .

Breastfeeding in children older than one year: breastfeeding from 12 months is not spoiling

The first thing that caused me doubt when writing the post was the title. I have often heard the terms prolonged breastfeeding to refer to children older than 12 months who are still nursing. Or breastfeeding in older children. And yet, I get the impression that these terms refer to something that is not normal, as if breastfeeding had to have a short duration or children beyond the age of 2 years were considered too old to breastfeed.
