These are the best hospitals in Spain to give birth: 2022 ranking

When we are in the final stretch of our pregnancy and we think about childbirth, it is normal to feel uncertainty and nervousness, especially if it is our first time. For many women, it is important to know well the hospital where they will give birth, and even to have good references that help them face the moment in a more relaxed and confident way.

If this is your case, you may be interested in consulting the “Health Reputation Monitor” (MRS), an independent report that has been carried out for the eighth consecutive year, and which analyzes the reputation of public and private hospitals in Spain , both at a general level as for specialties.

We have consulted which are the 15 best valued hospitals in the area of Gynecology and Obstetrics : eight of them are in Madrid, three in Barcelona, and one in each of the cities of Valencia, Navarra, Seville and Granada. Do you want to know what they are?

The Hospital Clínic of Barcelona, La Paz and 12 de Octubre in Madrid, the best valued

The top five positions in the table have not changed in any way with respect to the last ranking published in 2020, and the best-rated hospitals in the specialty of Gynecology and Obstetrics continue to be distributed, as in previous years, between the cities of Madrid and Barcelona.

Thus, we see that the Hospital Clinic (Barcelona) is again considered for the second consecutive year as the best valued in this specialty. This position was won for the first time last year, after six years occupying the second position behind Hospital La Paz (Madrid).

For its part, La Paz Hospital, which had been leading the ranking since it began to be published in 2014, once again occupies the second position for the second year. Third, fourth and fifth place respectively goes to Hospital 12 de Octubre (Madrid), Hospital Vall D’Hebron (Barcelona) and Hospital Gregorio Marañón (Madrid), which maintain their positions with respect to the last published monitor.

The five best rated Spanish hospitals in the area of Gynecology and Obstetrics are public and are located in Madrid and Barcelona.

The private hospital Clínica Universidad de Navarra, which since 2018 had been occupying the eighth position, climbs two positions in 2022 and is in sixth place, unseating the La Fe hospital (Valencia), which falls to 12th place.

The seventh and eighth positions hardly change with respect to the 2020-21 ranking. Thus, the Virgen del Rocío Hospital (Seville) continues in seventh place and the Quirón Dexeus private hospital (Barcelona) climbs one position and is in eighth place in the table.

Movement of positions in the lower half of the ranking

If the first half of the table has hardly changed, the lower half is the one that registers the most movements with respect to the last ranking published in 2020-21.

After having disappeared from the classification last year, in 2022 the Hospital Puerta de Hierro Majadahonda (Madrid) will slip in again , occupying the ninth position in the area of Gynecology and Obstetrics.

The biggest rise in the ranking in this specialty this year is experienced by the Jiménez Díaz Foundation (Madrid), which rises from position 13 that it occupied last year to number 10, once again recovering the place it held two years ago.

The 11th position is for the Virgen de las Nieves University Hospital (Granada), which appears again in the classification since the last time it was included in the ranking, in 2014.

The biggest drop in ranking positions is for the La Fe hospital (Valencia), which drops from sixth position in 2020 to 12th position in 2022, displacing Ramón y Cajal Hospital (Madrid), which drops to 13th position in the table.

Quirón Salud University Hospital (Madrid) slips into the 14th position of the best valued hospitals in the area of Gynecology and Obstetrics, after a year of absence in the ranking.

The last place in the table is for Hospital Clínico San Carlos (Madrid), which falls four places with respect to the 2020 classification.

The Reina Sofía Hospital in Córdoba, the Quirón San José (Madrid) and the Bellvitge University Hospital (Barcelona) disappear from the ranking compared to the previous year .

How has the ranking been done?

Although we have analyzed the ranking of the best hospitals in the specialty of Gynecology and Obstetrics, the Health Reputation Monitor has also produced rankings of the best hospitals in other medical specialties (including Paediatrics), the best hospitals in general, both public and private , as well as other rankings related to the health sector.

The issue of weight gain in pregnancy is one that usually generates doubts and, sometimes, controversy. As we have already explained on other occasions, the number of kilos that a woman gains during this stage is different for each one, depending on the type of body, routine and diet.

I have realized that my mental burden as a mother did not begin after...

A few days ago I reflected on the way in which motherhood has changed my life. All of us who have been through this know that, although we do not all experience it in the same way (the mere fact of giving birth at term or not can make a huge difference), exhaustion and mental load is a common denominator that identify them all. But when does that mental load really start?

Everything that begins to revolve around a pregnancy when an incipient belly can no longer hide it has always caught my attention: the comments about whether you are more beautiful (or not, that there are also those who say so), the advice that begins to arrive in spurts, and in a very special way, the wishes of all those who have the super power to guess if what you are expecting is a boy or a girl, just by seeing you with the first maternity dress.
