In Babies and More we have commented on different occasions that motherhood should not be at odds with pursuing our dreams and professional and personal goals. An example of this are the athlete mothers, who after the great transformation that their body goes through, not only resume their activities, but also some do it facing great challenges and tests.
Proof of this is Jasmin Paris, a British mother who has not only participated in a 430-kilometer ultramarathon in which she made stops to express milk , but has also won it and set a new record.
Jasmin Paris is a veterinarian and the mother of a 14-month-old girl. One of his passions is running and he has participated in different races and marathons. In her blog, she has even talked about her experience returning to running after being a mother and the difficulties she faced when she realized that it would not be as easy as she imagined before her daughter Rowan was born.
But despite resuming exercise after delivery and having obtained good results, she was having a hard time staying motivated to continue training, so she decided to look for something that would challenge her: ” So I did something crazy, and I signed up for a race in the one who had sworn never to participate, the Spine . ” The Montane Spine Race is a 430 kilometer ultramarathon, one of the most difficult and toughest in the world .
As if the distance weren’t enough, the race takes place in the dead of English winter, on the Pennine Way, which cuts through some of the toughest terrain in England. In it, the participants must go through some sections with strong winds, rain and snow , with a thermal sensation of up to 20 degrees below zero.
In the same entry in which she tells of her experience, she said that the biggest challenge would not be to participate in the race itself, but to express milk during it , since she still continues to breastfeed her daughter and did not want breastfeeding to be interrupted for his participation in the ultramarathon.
But despite her own difficulties, as well as the challenges and challenges that arose during the race, Jasmin came in first place with a time of 83 hours 12 minutes and 23 seconds, breaking the previous race record , which was higher by 12 hours.
For almost four days while doing the ultramarathon, she made a few stops to express milk and got some rest , but in total, she only slept for two and a half hours. A characteristic of this race is that each participant decides when and how much to rest.
Jasmin tells, as a joke but also as a real fact, that motherhood perhaps helped her a little, because after the birth of her daughter, her sleep hours were considerably reduced and like many mothers, she got used to having hours of work. very small break .
More Athlete Mothers Continuing to Breastfeed
Jasmin is undoubtedly an inspiration and an example of how much we can achieve women and mothers of the world, although she is not the first athlete that we see participating in important sporting events and at the same time actively continue her role as a mother .
Other marathon runners or runners who have made news by continuing to breastfeed in these types of competitions are Jaime Sloane, who expressed milk while participating in a triathlon, and Sophie Power, who participated in a mountain ultramarathon that lasted 43 hours and in the one who made a few stops to breastfeed her baby.
But these examples are not limited to running moms . We also have Irina, the handball player, who breastfed her baby on the court, giving us a beautiful and very natural image of conciliation. Or the Olympic winner Maialen Chourraut, who in the middle of judo competition, breastfed her two-and-a-half-year-old son.
Undoubtedly, all of them are an example of strength, conciliation and maternal love, since they not only pursue their dreams by participating in competitions or running marathons, but also continue to protect and maintain their children’s breastfeeding .
