Two trains collide on a single-track railway line: in the collision in Schäftlarn near Munich, a passenger dies and several are injured. It is unclear: Why did the trains collide?
Schäftlarn – The day after the serious S-Bahn accident south of Munich, there are still many unanswered questions. The focus should be on investigating the causes. How did the accident come about in which a passenger died and 18 people were injured?
Two S-Bahn trains collided on a single-track route near Schäftlarn station on Monday afternoon. Within a very short time, a large-scale operation by the police, fire brigade and rescue services took place.
The dead man was a 24-year-old Afghan, said police spokesman Andreas Franken late in the evening. 18 people were injured, five of them seriously. The 13 others sustained moderate injuries. In addition, 25 people were treated as outpatients. A total of 95 people were on the trains. Some were able to free themselves from the wagons, while others were helped out by the rescuers.
The tracks are elevated on a railway embankment, which made rescue work and recovery of the jammed trains more difficult. The Technical Relief Agency was on site all night, said a spokesman for the fire service center in the Munich district on Tuesday. According to Deutsche Bahn, work on the salvage should continue during the day. The railway line is still closed, a replacement service set up.

Around 680 police, fire brigade, rescue services and technical relief organizations were involved in the operation until late at night. According to the police, the public prosecutor’s office in Munich I is leading the investigation into the cause of the accident. Reviewers should support their work. dpa
