With the threat of rain, the tenth classification of the 2022 Formula 1 season began, that of the British Grand Prix, which would decide the order of the starting grid for Sunday’s race. After the three wet rounds, Carlos Sainz took a spectacular pole position in his Ferrari F1-75, followed by Max Verstappen and his teammate, Charles Leclerc.
In the first attempt, Charles Leclerc set the best reference, but as the laps passed the times fell rapidly, so the Monegasque fell in favor of Guanyu Zhou and Fernando Alonso, but it was Max Verstappen who gave the feeling of be the fastest, since a spin deprived him of being in the lead.
With less and less minutes on the scoreboard, all the drivers pushed hard, and in a succession of fast laps, the driver from Madrid achieved the first pole position in his career after nine attempts so far this season with a great final lap under the rain.
After him, Max Verstappen finished, who was unable to overtake the Spaniard’s Ferrari, but he did overtake the Monegasque, Leclerc, who will start ahead of Lewis Hamilton’s Mercedes, although the eyes of the Spanish fans will also be in seventh position, since that Fernando Alonso will start from there.
In the last positions of the classification finished Lando Norris, who will be 6th with his McLaren, while George Russell was 7th, Guanyu Zhou, 9th, and Nicholas Latifi closed the top 10.

F1 British GP 2022 Qualifying Q1 Recap
The rain made an appearance a few minutes before the green light in the pitlane, so almost everyone quickly went out on the intermediate tires to set a time and ensure their presence at the next round in case of a red flag . In the initial moments, the Ferraris set the pace, especially with the car of Charles Leclerc, who took the lead more than two seconds behind the rest, but soon Max Verstappen beat everyone to put another two seconds apart .
Despite the water that wet the track, the Alpines, Fernando Alonso’s and Esteban Ocon’s, were the last to leave, and they waited as long as Sebastian Vettel did to start setting times, which caused a feeling of anguish in their garages in case it started to rain harder, which would mean they would be left out of Q1.
Gradually the classification stabilized, but as the track improved with the passing of the single-seaters, the sectors were filled with purple, especially with Verstappen’s Red Bull, the first of the drivers to break the 1:41 barrier , while the Mercedes were postulated as possible candidates with George Russell, although the weakest seemed clear, with the AlphaTauri, Aston Martin and Nicholas Latifi.
Just three minutes from the end of the first round, all the single-seaters were rolling, since at any moment the asphalt could dry out and cause some ‘big’ to have a scare. Once the checkered flag fell and everyone was through the finish, Leclerc improved to drop to a 1m39.129s and lead, but it was Lance Stroll, Mick Schumacher, Sebastian Vettel, Kevin Magnussen and the surprise Alex Albon who were left out. in Q1 and will start from the bottom of the grid. The scare, despite not being a favourite, was for the Anglo-Thai driver from Williams, who was overtaken by his teammate, Nicholas Latifi, with a single-seater that had not evolved.

F1 British GP 2022 Qualifying Q2 Recap
The Canadian driver was the first to go out on track in the second round of qualifying , still in the wet and with the cars riding the intermediate rubber, but the favorites for pole position were already waiting a little longer to go on track. Sergio Pérez was the first leader, although still far from the Q1 times, followed by Fernando Alonso’s Alpine, but it was Max Verstappen who once again broke the times to take the lead.
From behind, the Mercedes showed they had speed, but as the track continued to improve, the splits constantly went from purple to green, and the positions varied with the passing of the minutes. In the middle of the round, nobody seemed to have a guaranteed position in Q3, although neither in the elimination zone, so everything could happen in the final moments in the fight to finish in the top ten.
However, the rain intensified again and the first five settled for their mark, since their presence in the fight for pole position was already assured, that is, Verstappen, Hamilton, Leclerc, Sainz and Russell. The one who tried the most was Esteban Ocon, who with several crusades on his fastest lap could not get better, so he will start from 15th place, while ahead he will have Daniel Ricciardo, Yuki Tsunoda, Valtteri Bottas and Pierre Gasly, who was four tenths behind the surprise of the day, Latifi, who made the cut and entered Q3 for the first time of the season.
