Formula 1 returns to Europe after a transatlantic trip to Canada and will do so at the historic Silverstone track, which will once again host the British GP.
For the tenth race of the season, Pirelli has decided to run the following compounds:
- C1 (the hard one, white in color)
- C2 (middle, yellow)
- C3 (the soft one, red in color)
This combination brings together the three toughest compounds in the Milan-based house’s 2022 range. Let us remember that the Pirelli range goes from C1 (the hardest) to C5 (the softest) which, together with C4, will not be used this weekend.
Pirelli’s tires for the 2022 F1 British GP
- Along with Suzuka (Japan) and Spa-Francorchamps (Belgium), the Silverstone track is the one that consumes the most tires throughout the year, which is why Pirelli has opted for the hardest tires in its range: C1 as hard, C2 as medium and C3 as soft.
- It is the third time this season that Pirelli has opted for this combination,
- Ultra-fast, high-energy corners, such as the section formed by Maggots and Becketts , are not the only challenge Silverstone offers: the weather can be extremely variable, from brilliant sunshine to torrential rain.
- Last year’s race was won with two pit stops, one of which took place under a red flag following a collision between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen. Almost all drivers completed two stints in the middle and one final on hard.
- This year the compounds and structures are completely different, and there is also no sprint qualifying, which was one of the key factors in last year’s strategy.
As before every Grand Prix, Mario Isola , responsible for Pirelli’s motorsport section, shared his impressions of the weekend: “The British Grand Prix was where the new show car for the 2022 season was presented last year. , to highlight the future direction of the sport, which we have taken starting this season.”
“The latest aerodynamic regulations have been designed to allow drivers to follow each other more closely and for longer to provide more overtaking opportunities, as we saw in Canada, while the tires have been designed to provide less overheating, more stability and more manageability in a wider working window”.
“All of these aspects will be put to the test this weekend, at one of the most demanding circuits of the year for tyres.”
