Sebastian Vettel is more than a Formula 1 driver, and it is something that he has shown repeatedly after his statements defending human rights and other issues that concern society.
After being the cover of the month of Attitude , “the best-selling gay magazine”, in which he said that “he hoped that Formula 1 was ready to receive a homosexual driver”, the German traveled to Baku to compete in the Azerbaijan Grand Prix of 2022.
A few hours before getting into his Aston Martin, he arrived at the paddock by bicycle, as he does on many occasions, but he did so wearing a protest shirt that read “Every day is Friday for the future”, with a drawing from a sun formed the ‘O’ in the word ‘for’. In addition, Vettel wore a wristband with the colors of the Ukrainian flag, in clear defense of peace after the conflict that has been raging in this country for months.

This was not all for the four-time world champion, as he donned a special helmet that highlights his fight against climate change. With a design very similar to his usual white with the German flag vertical, Vettel added some inscriptions with a peculiar typography, as if it had been written by hand.
“Make Love Not CO2!”, “Less Meat, Less Heat!”, “Climate Justice”, “Our House Is On Fire”, “Act Now Or Nothing Later”, “Winter Isn’t Coming” and, of course, the phrase on the shirt with which he presented himself in the paddock, were the slogans that filled his helmet in Baku.
Sebastian Vettel took the controls of the AMR22 in the first free practice session with this special and vindictive design, just after the declarations of the FIA president, Mohammed ben Sulayen , who seemed to suggest that the pilots should not use the Formula 1 to raise awareness about issues other than sports.
However, the German has the support of others, such as Lewis Hamilton, who assured that the members of the grid should speak more clearly about the issues that really mattered to them, which Vettel does openly as has been shown again.
