Mercedes will wear a star on its F1 car supporting the LGBTQ+ community

Formula 1 has always been considered a men’s sport in which any thought different from the traditional one that broke in was frowned upon. Fortunately, over the years, this has changed, and it is no longer uncommon to see all the people walk in harmony through the paddock to grow the category with their work.

Some with great authority in sport have been at the foot of the canyon to defend human rights, such as Sebastian Vettel or Lewis Hamilton, with repeated claims on the circuits. The German wore a pro-LGBTQ+ t-shirt at the 2021 Hungarian Grand Prix in the pre-race ceremony, challenging due to restrictive Hungarian government laws, while the Briton donned a Hungarian flag helmet. rainbows in the Middle Eastern countries in the final rounds of the course.

Now, the Mercedes team, on the occasion of Pride Month, has joined the cause to show its support for LGBTQ+ groups, and for this they will compete with the iconic Mercedes-Benz star with shades of the rainbow in the next three appointments of Formula 1.

Thus, the Star of Pride will appear on the nose of the German single-seater in the great prizes of Azerbaijan, Canada and Great Britain, to raise awareness of what this represents.

“Both Lewis [Hamilton] and George [Russell] will wear the Pride Star on their helmets for these races throughout the month of June, adding their voices to the global celebration of the LGBTQ+ community,” the team said in its statement.

“As part of our Accelerate 25 program, displaying the star represents a visual expression of our commitment to creating a more diverse and inclusive team,” they continued. “We strongly believe that fostering a culture in which members of our ensemble can freely express their personality and identity will lead to a stronger, higher-performing team.”

In addition, Mercedes will hold a barbecue for all those team employees who want to go, expressing that this is done as a show of support for their colleagues in the team. The silver arrows will have their rainbow icon in every possible place, such as in their social media profile photos, all with the same goal of raising awareness about this issue.

“Under the banner of the Mercedes-Benz Pride Star, we share a commitment to a culture of diversity and inclusion, and oppose all forms of discrimination,” they said.

“We are all different, but we are all the same. We defend openness, trust and fairness, and we believe that everyone deserves to be respected and appreciated for what they are,” they said from the German team.
