Sergio Pérez was upset after finishing qualifying for the 2022 Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix, and it is that, in the words of the Mexican, there was an opportunity to place himself in the first row of the exit, which will be filled by the two Ferraris .
Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz overshadowed the work of Red Bull, and Checo , who was the fastest in the third free practice session, will start behind his teammate, Max Verstappen, who fell in the last attempt of the Maranello single-seater, from top to third position.
Pérez’s time of 1:29.036 left him just over two tenths of what Leclerc set, and the fact is that the Mexican did not exceed the 1:28 barrier, as the two Ferrari drivers and his partner did, the reigning world champion.
Pérez expressed to FOX Sports México that the problem of his lack of rhythm in Q3 was rooted in the tires, by not placing the soft rubber in the correct operation window: “My first lap in it was quite bad, the tires were very cold and they were not in temperature.
“I had a very bad sector 1,” said Checo before adding that on his second and last attempt he encountered difficulties in the central part of the Miami track.
“In my second attempt I improved it, sector 2 cost me a bit, in the slow part, but I also didn’t find the ideal balance,” said the Mexican before ruling that he could have gotten into the fight for second position against Carlos Sainz if he had not had this problem, since “half a tenth would have put him there today”.

Pérez considers that the race is open due to different factors such as degradation and lack of grip on the circuit, where the drivers have already expressed that leaving the ideal line could end in a spin.
“I think that the track, in general, is suffering a lot with this type of asphalt. Anything could happen tomorrow because we have a long race ahead of us,” said the driver who is in the fight for third place in the world championship.
