Fernando Alonso, who returned to F1 this year, said all the restrictions did not allow him to be a key part of Alpine’s car development. Asked how much he had been involved in the process of creating the 2022 car, he said: “Not much to be honest.
“The development has been controlled by all the engineers and the simulations. The new rules were too strict at the beginning, and the FIA clarified what could or could not be done. It is a strange new project for everyone, from now in December until January, We will start working on the simulator, and I hope that our involvement will be greater”, acknowledged the Spaniard.
The Alpine driver finished the season 10th in the standings on his return, saying he had “high hopes” for his team to be a contender.
“More power on the straights and more downforce in the corners, that’s what all drivers want for next year,” he said. “We are strong in many areas, we just need to have a competitive package coming out of the Enstone and Viry factories, we have worked for many months and we have high hopes which we will see in February.”

Esteban Ocon, teammate of the two-time champion in the Gallic team, was in the simulator this week, and he hopes that this winter will be one of the busiest of his career: “This week the car will be ready in the simulator, and that is when we are really going to start working hard.”
“We started testing the 18-inch wheels in Abu Dhabi and now we are going to have a very busy winter. Most likely we will have more than others,” he concluded.
