After snatching second place from Carlos Sainz Jr. by taking advantage of his outside position at the first corner, Max Verstappen waited patiently against leader Charles Leclerc. Aided by the degradation of the Ferrari’s tires, the Dutchman ended up closing in and overtaking when the Monegasque was in trouble.
From then on, he gradually built up a solid lead that was eventually wiped out by the Safety Car caused by the collision between Pierre Gasly and Lando Norris. Leclerc’s pressure in the closing moments mounted, but the defending world champion held on thanks to the impressive top speed of his Red Bull on the long charges on the Florida track.
Result of the voting for the driver of the day :
Max Verstappen – 18%
Mick Schumacher – 14.5%
George Russell – 12.7%
Charles Leclerc – 8.6%
