As announced last Wednesday, the Aston Martin TT1 ‘Green Pea’ Grand Prix, a car built as a single copy in 1922, has returned to a French track, the Circuit Paul Ricard, home of the French Grand Prix .
And it has done so exactly 100 years after its debut, which also took place on transalpine soil for the same Grand Prix, but which was then played in Strasbourg .
Who made it roar again a century after that promising but unfortunate debut – in which he was forced to retire due to engine failure when he was fifth overall – was Sebastian Vettel.
The four-time Formula 1 world champion, now a regular driver for the Aston Martin team, dressed up for the occasion, with a shirt, gray waistcoat, tie and tie pin, vintage glasses and a hat on his head. And then he got into the spacious cabin together with Johnny Herbert, also dressed in the same way.
After a first look at the dashboard, no doubt different from the technological steering wheel of the current AMR22, Sebastian started the engine of the TT1 Green Pea Grand Prix and headed out onto the track, enjoying a few laps in the centenary but charming green car.

That test, which delighted the driver but also every motorsport lover, came just three weeks after the exhibition that Vettel was able to enjoy at Silverstone with the 1992 Williams with which Nigel Mansell had been crowned.
This fully restored vehicle made Vettel , a well-known classic car enthusiast, happy and served to celebrate in the best possible way the 100th anniversary of Aston Martin ‘s first appearance in racing.
Now it will be up to the current team to try to honor that anniversary in the best possible way, trying to take home important points for the constructors’ championship during the 2022 French Grand Prix this weekend.
