The last laps of the Sachsenring "were a nightmare" for Zarco

Johann Zarco tried everything, but Fabio Quartararo won significantly in Germany and the last few laps almost became a “nightmare” for the drivers due to tire wear on the German circuit.

The Provençal, third on the starting grid, was unable to close the distance that separated him from Fabio Quartararo and crossed the finish line in second position.

After finishing the race, Zarco assured that an important stage of his career was his spectacular overtaking of Espargaró. “I immediately felt that I had a little more than Aleix Espargaró so I was able to overtake him quickly,” the Frenchman explained to the Canal + microphone. “I didn’t want to miss the opportunity to follow Fabio and Pecco.”

“You could tell right away that they were more loose and could go faster. When I overtook him [Aleix Espargaró], Pecco and Fabio were fighting a bit, and when Pecco went to the ground, I said to myself ‘that’s one less driver. , I’m second, I can have some rhythm, I’ll try to stay with Fabio.”

“Aleix was trying to resist on the outside, so being on the inside I accelerated a little more to take advantage, and from there I knew that I could try to follow the first two”, described the Frenchman.

Johann Zarco stayed just over a second behind the leader for a long time, unable to close the gap, but with a good lead over the riders fighting for third place.

“I did my best, I was hoping to catch [Fabio]. I knew he had the medium rear tire, I had the hard one, maybe it was going to be an advantage for me, but I couldn’t use it. That hard rear tire was a good strategy for us, but […] half way through it started to cost me. I had a good lead and that helped me at the end, because the last few laps were difficult”.

“The last three laps were almost a nightmare, because it was very difficult to control the bike. Yes, I had an advantage, a second place for sure, but without his penalty, Miller would have finished the race very well,” assured the Frenchman after finishing the race. German Grand Prix with second place on the podium.
