MotoGP will award a prize for the best overtaking of the year

Once the last race of the season is over (usually in Valencia ) , the riders change their overalls for suits and go, that same Sunday night, to the traditional FIM Awards gala. This is where the prizes are awarded to the different world champions and other recognitions, such as the best rookie of the year.

In the 2022 edition there will be a new award that will recognize the best overtaking of the year . It is an award similar to the Puskás of football (the best goal of the season). Formula 1 also recognizes overtaking with two prizes: for the best overtaking in each race and a trophy for the driver who makes the most overtaking throughout the calendar.

This new recognition of MotoGP will receive the official name of Agostini Fan Award , in recognition of the motorcycling legend and rider with the most world championships. And, as the name indicates, it will be the fans who are in charge of deciding which pilot wins in this particular category.

MotoGP proposes four overtakes , which can be voted on by fans starting this Friday on the championship’s social networks ( Twitter, Youtube and Instagram ).

These are the four candidates for the award:

Aleix Espargaró’s overtaking in Assen is one of the candidates and, apparently from this writing, the favorite for the best overtaking of the year. The action took place on the last lap of the race, with Aleix completing an impressive comeback after Fabio Quartararo took him out in the early stages.

The one from Granollers overtook Brad Binder and Jack Miller in the same braking, rising to fourth position and minimizing damage.

One of the most notorious overtaking of the season was that of Quartararo in the Austrian Grand Prix. The Yamaha rider took advantage of the new chicane at the Red Bull Ring to invent an overtaking on Jack Miller. He was the only one capable of carrying out that maneuver throughout the weekend, and it earned him second place on the podium.

After several weekends shooting at the post, Enea Bastianini managed to beat Pecco Bangaia in the Aragon Grand Prix, although by a few thousandths. Both Italian pilots engaged in an intense battle for victory, which ended in the hands of Gresini.

The specific overtaking that aspires to the award is the one carried out at the entrance to turn 7, a maneuver very similar to the one already carried out by Dani Pedrosa on Valentino Rossi years ago.

Bagnaia took the overall lead at the Australian Grand Prix, where one of the closest races of the season took place.

The particular action occurred in the always complicated braking of turn 4, where a few laps before there had been a crash. The Italian did not give up and overtook Marc Márquez and Jorge Martín to go on to hunt down Alex Rins.
