Quartararo will have to undergo surgery for his finger injury

The Yamaha rider suffered a fall last Saturday during free practice at the Gran  Prize from Malaysia , with the bad luck that the left hand violently dragged on the asphalt, receiving a strong blow and laceration. The Frenchman applied ice and took part a few minutes later in qualifying, finishing bottom of Q2 and being forced to start 12th on the starting grid.

After the review carried out by Dr. Angel Charte , medical director of the World Championship, a small fracture was detected in the middle finger of the hand, initiating intensive care and treatment so that the pilot could rest on Saturday night and take part in the race, for which he was declared fit.

On Sunday Fabio Quartararo completed one of his best performances of the season, the best since Austria, returning to the podium (3rd) and delaying the championship decision until Valencia.

This Tuesday, after returning to Europe, Fabio underwent a review with his physiotherapist in Nice , his hometown, where the prognosis of the fracture was confirmed and the decision was made to perform a small operation on his finger to fix the fractured bone.

From Yamaha they confirmed that the pilot will have to undergo surgery, but he will not do so until the end of the season.

“Everything is in order, Fabio has undergone a review and will have to face a small intervention that is not urgent, therefore it will be done after Valencia”, where the last grand prix of the course is held next week and, then, on Tuesday On November 8, the first day of the 2023 preseason will take place, in which Yamaha hopes to be able to offer Quartararo the new prototype with which he will compete next year after a year in which he has suffered the most due to the lack of power of the M1 and in which it is very complicated, almost impossible, to reissue the title won in 2021.
